CBC News Revised!
The CBC counting is over, the numbers have been amassed, the data entry is almost complete and here we go with some numbers!
You all were intrepid! We had 26 observers in the field and 18 at the Feeders. We traveled 6.41 hours (6.08 miles) by foot, and 63.5 hours by car (497 miles), with 38 reported feeder hours and 4.75 nocturnal (owling) hours (16 miles). We saw 58 total species (plus a Count Week Merlin and Count Week Fox Sparrow) and a total of 6929 birds!
Evening Grosbeaks were seen by three groups; these birds were only spotted twice before since the year 2000. We did well. We had some suggestions, and will be following up on them this year. We encourage you to tell your birder friends about the CBC, and recruit them for next year's count. We'd especially like to add to our Feeder Watchers and our new Walker/Hiker group. I might also mention that the report asks if we had anyone out in a boat, on a golf cart or ATV, on horseback or wheelchair, or on skis or snowshoes! Don't limit yourself....
Bird Sightings Wanted!
