Northern Goshawk
A Northern Goshawk nest was found in Clarion County this May. SRAS member Ron Montgomery alerted Dave Brinker of the Central Appalachian Goshawk Project who was able to band both adults and 2 chicks. During 2009 none of the territories monitored by the Central Appalachian Goshawk Project fledged any chicks and fledging success was also poor the preceding 2 years. So this is exciting.
SRAS Scholarship Awarded to Cara Cherico
Audubon Camp at Hog Island in Maine has re-opened this year with Stephen Kress (of Project Puffin fame) as director. Congratulations to Cara Cherico, our scholarship recipient. She is a science teacher at Jeff Tech in Reynoldsville and is attending "Joy of Birding", a week-long program this summer.

Picnic - August 23
Fran and Jack Williams have graciously agreed to host our potluck August Picnic again this year. It will be held on Monday, August 23. Stay tuned for more details.
We have some great programs coming up for next fall!
On September 13 we will welcome back Scott Stoleson of the U.S. Forest Service, who will present "A bird in the hand: perspectives from bird banding". Scott has spent many hours in the field to gather the information and bird photos that make up this show.
On October 11 our own Gil Twiest will present a program on South America, where he and Linda have recently visited. Gil is not only a prize-winning photographer, he also has a way with words - this is sure to be a pleasurable evening.
On November 8, Bert Nemcik, a determined and hardy soul who has walked the entire 2,175 mile Appalachian Trail in a single trip, will tell of his adventures.
---- Our programs are held on the second Monday of the month; refreshments and social begin at 6:30 pm, and the program will begin at 7:00 pm.
Our programs are now being held in the Room 123 of the new Science Technology Center on the Clarion University campus.Park in Lot 11. Drop-off in front of the STC is available, but this is not a parking area.
All programs are free and open to the public. See you there!
