Programs

Did you know that you wear lots of pockets when you look for birds?   Scroll down to see...

We won't tell you where babies come from, but we can teach you a thing or two about storks (and many other birds, as well as other related topics)!

Our programs are geared towards adults but can be adapted for younger audiences.

Please email Ron Montgomery for more information on our programs.

Members of Seneca Rocks Audubon Society (SRAS) are often asked by community organizations to present bird-related programs.  While we like to accommodate such requests, finding an available member with a talk “ready to go” is often an issue.  So at the request of the SRAS Board, Ron Montgomery has agreed to be an official presenter for the group, and he has prepared the following programs.   Ron provides his own computer and PowerPoint projecter.

Although Ron is a designated speaker for SRAS, other members of the group may also be available.  In fact, Ron may be able to steer you toward someone else, especially if you would prefer a program based upon a visit to some other part of the world.

Members of SRAS sometimes provide programs for youth groups, but the above are intended for adult organizations.  While Ron will not accept either expenses or a fee for presenting these programs, we have decided that a contribution to SRAS is appropriate.  We feel that such a contribution signals a significant interest in the subject and an appreciation of the effort involved.  Contributions for the 45 minute talks have averaged $75.  There is no charge for schools (unless they have specific funding for this purpose) or for the CUP Biology Department.

Ron cannot guarantee to be available on any given day, but his goal is to give up to 10 programs per year.  Some programs may involve additional presenters.  Please contact Ron if you are interested in a program for your organization.

Here's a cute "Thank You" that Ron received from the Clarion Christian Preschool -

Field Ecology Scholarship

Each summer SRAS offers a scholarship to a person, 18 years of age or older, interested in attending one of several week-long field ecology classes to be held at Hog Island, Maine.  Hog Island belongs to the National Audubon Society and the camps offer courses in coastal biology, ecology and ornithology to applicants from around the country.  The faculty members are well-known in their fields and the classes are small.

Teachers and educators are especially encouraged to attend while others with an interest in outdoor education, ecology or ornithology can also apply.  More information about the camps is available at www.Maineaudubon.org.

To obtain an application for the scholarship contact SRAS Scholarship Committee c/o Deb Freed, 208 Briar Hill Drive, Clarion, PA  16214, or download the Scholarship Application on our web-site.  Applications are accepted until March 15 at the above address, and awarded by April 1 each year.
